50,000 BAM for Businesses Owned by Marginalized Women in Srebrenik

IMG 9014USAID’s Marginalized Populations Support Activity, in cooperation with the City Administration of Srebrenik secured 50,000 BAM for supporting the launch and development of businesses owned by marginalized women.

Grant agreements were signed with 7 selected grantees at the Srebrenik City Administration building. The businesses encompass a wide range of activities: agriculture, service and hospitality industry, administrative and legal services and speech therapy.

“I noticed that that there is an unmet demand for speech therapists in our city, and thanks to USAID’s PPMG Activity and the City of Srebrenik, I can now make my dream come true and contribute to the household budget”, said Maida Imširović, a future young business owner from Srebrenik.

The contract signing ceremony was attended by Mayor Nihad Omerović,  Assistant to Mayor and Head of the Department for Entrepreneurship, Local Development and Investments, Mr.  Enis Brašnjić, gosp. Aziz Đipa, Chief of Party of USAID’s Marginalized Populations Support Activity and future business owners.

“I’d like to start by thanking USAID and the Marginalized Populations Support Activity for recognizing the efforts of Srebrenik’s City Administration to develop entrepreneurship in our city. I’d also like to congratulate our fellow citizens who bravely decided to start their own businesses and took a very professional approach to developing their business ideas”, said Mr. Brašnjić.

This support is intended for businesses owned by women with disabilities, mothers of persons with disabilities, women from rural areas, victims of violence and unemployed young women.

The funds are awarded through the Fund for Supporting Businesses Owned by Marginalized Women which was founded in the beginning of 2017, and has thus far supported over 200 businesses.

The support provided by the Fund resulted in the launch of sustainable businesses that continue to grow, improving many household budgets and providing new jobs.

Creating the Fund, with joint forces of USAID/PPMG and partners, provided opportunities for sustainable development of entrepreneurship of marginalized women, by encouraging self-employment, improving and facilitating their participation in entrepreneurship, and creating new jobs.
